Half way there!

We had treatment again today. Mom did great and is still feeling well! The nurses just love her and are taking such good care of her. We were told by the doctor that this round might be a little tougher than the last since her body has had time to adjust the chemo. However, they said she should be good at least through the weekend. We did get some good news; because her blood count was so high, she gets to eat salad and fresh fruit until Saturday. I know this sounds like a small thing, but I guess you never know how much you really want something until someone tells you that you can't have it. After they told her no fresh fruit and veggies, all she has been craving is a big salad!

Along with this small sacrifice are other larger ones, of course. Mom started to lose her hair last weekend, so it has been a little bit of an adjustment. We did find out that she looks very cute in hats and scarves! This also proved something that we have always known...it is not her hair that makes her beautiful.

We are continually grateful for all your prayers! Thank you all for the cards, comments, flowers, gifts (like the quilt in this picture), phone messages, texts, and e-mails. We can not begin to tell you how encouraging it is for us as her family and for our mom. She will go in for another booster injection tomorrow morning and then blood work next week. We will keep you posted.

We love you,
The Kids

Barkley Family,

I am so encouraged as I read your updates. As with my dad's situation, you can't imagine going through something as life altering and difficult as this is, but through it God brings about so much good. Many people will be touched and uplifted by the positive attitude each of you display. I know how tough this is on each member of the family, so I am praying that you all receive the strength you need. I will keep checking the blog for updates and continue to ask God for complete healing. Much love to each of you!

Hi Barb!! Just got home from DC and all of my wonderful time with my daughter and her 2 daughters! Baby Caroline is a very, very sweet child and my time with all "the girls" was awsome. My thoughts were never far from you --especially in prayer. Your daughter is correct--you look fabulous in scarves--and quilts!! I'm looking forward to seeing and being with you when the docs give you permission to be with "contaminated" people!! Your attitude, faith, and uplifting words are an inspiration to all who are blessed to know you. God's blessings and protection are asked for you each day. Much love, Gig

Please know we have been praying for you every day...not just once, but twice or thrice. In fact, we count it a blessing to convene and remember you before our Lord. The updates are certainly encouraging and when I last spoke with your handsome husband, who likewise is hair deprived, we were blessed to hear his good news from his perspective. Somehow it always seems that no matter how great our problems our Lord is always much greater. Take care, God bless and much love from our entire family.

Barb, you look absolutely beautiful! As with the rest of the family in the midwest, I wish we all lived closer so we could visit you. We have been thinking about you and keeping you in our prayers! We will continue to pray for a speedy and complete recovery. Thank goodness you caught it so soon! Brian, Carrie, Tanner and Emma :)
